Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Introduced in 2011, Pupil Premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of eligible children.

Should I apply?

Definitely!

Even if your child doesn’t want a school meal, the school will still benefit from additional funding, as we may be able to support you with the cost of school trips and clubs.

We can check your eligibility for you.  Click here to apply.

Please still apply even if your child is in Reception, Yr 1 or Yr 2 and entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals. Our school will receive funding, which we can use to help benefit our whole school community.

Who is eligible?

Children who have free school meals, or have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years.

Is anybody else eligible?

Yes, children with parents in the armed forces and those who have been adopted, have a special guardianship order or child arrangements order.

How much does the school get?

Currently, the school gets £1,480 for every child who claims free school meals, or has claimed them in the last six years.

Schools get £2,570 for pupils who have been adopted, have a special guardianship order or child arrangements order.

For children with a parent serving in HM Forces or if their parent has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence, the school gets £340 per pupil.

How is the Pupil Premium spent?

Mulbarton Primary School's senior leaders decide how best to spend the premium. We recognise the importance of quality teaching, academic support and other approaches that can make a difference such as music lessons, help with the cost of educational visits, access to Breakfast Club.

We use the funding to train teachers, to provide support in the classroom and on learning programmes such as Nessy and Numbots as well as music lessons, days out, residential trips and pastoral support.
