Year 4 begun their Forest School sessions in the Autumn Term.  We began by exploring the area, getting to know our routine and the flora and fauna in the woodland.  We met our 400-year-old oak tree, then observed how it fits into life cycles and our local environment field studies.  We connected their sessions to their curriculum topics, including Invaders and Settlers and Magical Elixirs.  We discussed how important nature was to those early settlers as well as discovering the power of plants on our school site. 

In addition to this we chose a tree to become guardians of in the Forest School area.  This allowed the children to use mathematical measurement formulas to age and observe their trees.
